meet the baker
My love affair for baking began as a child, being surrounded by family who loved to put together new and creative dishes. My earliest memories of baking or helping to bake was during Christmas time whilst peeling off the almonds to help my dad make the almond cake, and then trying to sneak some cake batter when no one was looking.
Being surrounded by incredible chefs who happened to be my own aunts and uncles really inspired to take my kitchen endeavours to the next level, using the techniques that I learned from them all while exploring new ways that resonated with me.
Then in 2009, I decided to enroll in baking classes which led to graduating with a certification in cake decorating in 2012. I have rarely left the kitchen since.
My bakes have been inspired from flavours and looks from all over the world, from the cake shop windows in London and Paris, to the soft and subtle flavours in Holland, to the bakeries in Karachi.
Being able to create pieces that bring people together through the love of eating is something that brings me great happiness. It's not just about mixing the ingredients for me, but rather it's about the stories that it tells, the memories that flavours can bring, and the way people are able to come together and celebrate anything with a good cup of tea and something sweet. I believe that it's in my blood to create dishes that bring people together.
As Julia Child once said, "A party without cake is just a meeting."
